Day Two: Athens
In the morning, private sightseeing of Athens with a licensed guide. Tour the city, including a visit to the Acropolis and the National Archaeological Museum. Free afternoon. In the evening, you will enjoy a Welcome Dinner at one of Leftheris’ favorite restaurants. Overnight in Athens.
Day Three: Athens to Nauplion
In the morning your 6-day rental car will be delivered to your hotel. Drive to the charming port town of Nauplion, the first capital of modern Greece. En route stop to visit the Corinth Canal, ancient Corinth and Epidauros, the sanctuary of Asklepios, the god of medicine, known for its ancient theater which is still in use. Overnight in Nauplion.
Day Four: Nauplion
Free day to explore the area. Option: in the morning, visit Mycenae, the site of Agamemnon and the House of Atreus; in the afternoon, visit the Palamidi fortress, which overlooks Nauplion, and the local folklore museum. In addition, you may want to visit the Heraion, a temple to Hera, queen of the gods. Overnight in Nauplion.
Day Five: Nauplion to Olympia
Free day to make your way from Nauplion to Olympia. If you would like a quiet morning in Nauplion, you may depart around noon to drive to Olympia. If you would like to explore some charming villages along the way, you can depart in the morning: drive to Dimitsana, one of the oldest and loveliest Arcadian villages with a charming water mill museum where gunpowder, flour and leather goods were created during the Middle Ages; explore Stemnitsa, a major medieval site which is home to a traditional ironwork and jewlery school, and a folklore museum; visit also the Moni Prodromou (Monastery of the Forerunner, St. John the Baptist) and the ancient site of Gortys at the foot of the Lousios River gorge; next visit Karytena with its Frankish castle and arched medieval bridge; your last stop will be near Andritsena to visit the Temple of Apollo at Vassae; finally, finish your drive to Olympia. Overnight in Olympia.
Day Six: Olympia
In the morning, private sightseeing of Olympia with a licensed guide: visit the site and the charming, small museum with its renowned statue of Hermes by Praxiteles. Option: visit the Olympic Museum with its unique collection representing the modern Olympiad. In the afternoon, visit Kaiafa Beach, with its lovely, long stretches of sand, perfect for an afternoon swim. Overnight in Olympia.
Day Seven: Olympia to Delphi
Today, enjoy a leisurely journey to Delphi. Drive through Patras, the capital of the Peloponnese, to Rion. Take the ferry across the "little Dardanelles" to Antirion and on to Delphi. En route stop to visit the charming port of Nafpaktos and enjoy a lovely lunch at the charming seaside village of Galaxidi. In the afternoon, private sightseeing of Delphi with a licensed guide: visit the Sanctuary of Apollo Pythios, the Castalian Spring, the treasuries, the theater and the stadium and the Temple of Athena Pronoia. Also visit the lovely, small museum with its renowned bronze statue of the 'Charioteer'. Free evening in Delphi. Overnight in Delphi.
Day Eight: Delphi to Athens
In the morning, head back to Athens. En route, stop in the charming village of Arachova, noted for its colorful rugs and woven goods and at the Byzantine monastery of Ossios Loukas, known for its exquisite mosaics. Your luxurious hotel is conveniently located in the airport. Overnight in Athens.
Day Nine: Travel Day
Depart from the airport for your outgoing flight.
